Something You Need To Know About
Testing A Salesletter
A confession.
I hardly do any testing
for my internet businesses. I know that’s WRONG. I think
I’m just being a lazy pig for not doing that. However, if I don’t
do any testing for improvement, I’m really stupid for
leaving the money on the table.
If you have a salesletter,
you need to test to improve the sales conversion. What
do I mean by that?
Let’s say, your
salesletter converts at 2% sales conversion. Meaning,
out of 100 people that read your salesletter, 2 people
will end up buying it. We call this first piece of
the salesletter that converts at 2% as the ‘Control’. Then,
we create another piece of salesletter with a different
variation.
This strategy is called
split testing.
Split testing is a
guaranteed way to increase the conversion rate of your
website. In a split test, you divide the traffic equally
amongst two versions of your salesletter to see which
version produces the most sales.
Understand? Cool.
Recently, I run a spilt
test on one of my salesletter at
www.thewealthtrilogies.com. The Infinite Wealth
Trilogy used to sell at $97 last time but I’ve reduced
it to $47 only to see how will the sales resulted.
The two versions of the
salesletters are:
Version A:
http://www.thewealthtrilogies.com/millionaire.html
Version B:
http://www.thewealthtrilogies.com/new.html
The difference of Version
A and B is that, Version B have a “Double Your Money
Back Guarantee” offer where else Version A doesn’t have.
Now, logically, Version B
should sell better because it has an extra benefit from
Version A, which is the “Double Your Money Back
Guarantee”. However, Version A seems to convert better
than Version B!
This makes me realized
that marketing cannot be assumed. Secondly, the
conversion of the sales is not determined by you.
You might like Version B better but your own
perspective is very limited. Only the market can tell
you what will sell better.
So, I took a step back and
analyzed why Version A can pull better -- for now.
Could be because with a
“Double Your Money Back”, it seems like the product is
almost too good to be true?
Or maybe, the impression
of a “Double Your Money Back Guarantee” will projects a sales pitch
impression. Certain copywriters will tell you that you
should not let your readers know that you’re selling
something in the beginning, but convince them to read
the salesletter first. Sell later.
So, what should I do now?
Continue with the spilt
test until I have a bigger sample of test to make a
better decision on which salesletter will be the
‘Control’.
The conclusion of this
sharing?
Do a split test on your
salesletter if you want to improve the sales conversion. Do it.

One Tiny Strategy Can Save Your
Whole Online Business
Whenever possible, I like
to teach from real life experience rather than telling
you all sort of theories. For instance, because of this
one simple strategy I’m using, it had saved my online
business.
Want to know what it is?
Of course you would.
Get feedbacks from your
subscribers/customers.
Honestly, I never know
it’s THAT IMPORTANT until it happened to me.
You see, whenever someone
unsubscribed from my mailing list, he'll go to a webpage
asking for feedback or reason why he had unsubscribed.
Here’s the exact template of mine. I’m giving you the
full rights to copy it to use for your own business.

Hi,
Thank you for your subscription with me previously. You
have been unsubscribed successfully from my mailing
list.
It's been a pleasure to have you in my mailing list last
time.
You see, I’m a believer in CANI –
Continuous And Never Ending Improvement.
With your feedback on my weakness, I really hope that I
can improve the mailing list to serve other of my
subscribers better because I have not been able to
convince you the value to stay with me earlier.
Is
it lack of content?
My
English is not good? Well, I had to admit on that
weakness. :)
Not personal enough?

P/S :
Whether you will reply to this email or not, you have
been unsubscribed from the mailing list.

Because of this simple
feedback strategy, one of my subscribers replied to me:

Thank God!
Because of this strategy,
I had managed to ‘save’ losing a valuable customer and
improved our business relationship. He told me why he's
unsubscribing. You see, I’ve
actually replied twice to him earlier but somehow, it
was caught in the email/spam filter of his. That’s why
he didn’t get it. So after that, I’ve used my other
email address and email to him again:

I got back an email from
him within 24 hours:

If I do not have the
feedback mechanism in my system, I wonder how many
customers and subscribers I’m losing away.
Remember the spilt test
tip I’ve to gave you earlier?
It’s the market that
determines how successful your business can be. Take
feedbacks and improve. Don’t be a knuckled head.
